Examination Regulations and Module Handbook
Examination regulations define the framework of your degree program, including:
?
-
Scope and content of module groups
-
Mandatory and elective courses within the module groups
-
Examination formats and requirements
-
Deadlines, such as orientation exams or maximum study duration

Before Your Studies
?
Requirements
For your studies at the Department of Computer Science, it is important to have access to digital learning materials such as documents, audio, and video files, as well as to complete assignments, particularly programming tasks. In principle, you can do this in the university's computer rooms without your own device. However, it is highly recommended to have your own hardware to study flexibly and independently of time and location.
Mobile devices such as tablets or laptops are suitable for this purpose. Tablets, for example, allow for easy digital handwritten notes, while programming and writing term papers are generally easier with a physical keyboard, which can either be connected to the tablet or is integrated into a laptop. An alternative is so-called convertibles, which can transform into a tablet by flipping the screen.
A "high-end device" is not required for the programme. Devices in lower price ranges are usually sufficient for studying. In case of doubt, a slightly larger amount of RAM is preferable to a higher processor performance.
Windows devices are widespread at the university, but Apple devices are also used. Occasionally, there may be issues with connections or file formats, but these are generally solvable.
When searching online for common providers with the term "education," you will often find special offers for students.
In addition, a limited number of loan devices are available. For more information on borrowing, please refer to the website here.

Application
Credits can generally be transferred for degree programmes at the Department of Computer Science. The possibility of transferring a module from another university, a different degree programme, or credits earned during a stay abroad to an equivalent module in the degree programme depends on the content alignment between the two modules. Additionally, there is the option to transfer modules directly from a stay abroad, provided they are thematically compatible with the degree programme.
To have credits transferred, an official credit transfer application must be submitted to the Examination Office. For this, you will need the module descriptions of the completed modules in either German or English, as well as a transcript of records.
Please note: We can only review potential credit transfers once you are enrolled in the degree programme.
Further information and the credit transfer application can be found on the website of the Examination Office.

Exams
If exam registration is done through STUDIS, all students will receive an email from the Examination Office in due time. In cases of block courses or similar, the exam may be rescheduled. In such cases, an earlier registration deadline will apply. These special cases will be announced during the lecture or on Digicampus.
After registering for exams in STUDIS, it is recommended to generate and verify an "exam registration certificate." This can serve as proof of registration if needed.
Please note: The deadline for exam registration must be strictly adhered to. In case of technical issues during the registration period in STUDIS, you can contact the Examination Office via email. The email should include your first and last name, your student ID number, and the correct course title.
If you miss the exam registration deadline in STUDIS, you may submit a written, signed application for late registration to the Examination Office under certain circumstances. This application must be submitted no later than two weeks after the registration deadline and at least three working days (Monday to Friday) before the exam date. The application must explain why the student was not responsible for missing the deadline. Relevant supporting documents may need to be attached.
The specific rules for final theses are set individually by the departments/professors. Therefore, the relevant information can be found on the respective department websites. Please note: Departments often have requirements for prior courses that must be completed before supervising a final thesis or may set specific periods for starting a thesis. It is therefore advisable to gather information well in advance.
More information about final theses at the Department of Computer Science can be found here.

Orientation Exam and Deadlines
Adhering to deadlines is an important and central aspect for a smooth progression of studies. Deadlines for exam registration in STUDIS, submission of seminar papers, or the bachelor thesis must be strictly followed, as extensions are granted only in exceptional cases and only if the reasons are reported immediately. The deadlines to be observed are as follows:
?
Re-registration
Students already enrolled at the University of Augsburg must re-register within the deadline if they wish to continue their studies in the next semester. This is not done in person but by transferring the semester fee to the State Treasury of Bavaria. Further information on the transfer and the re-registration deadline can be found on the
Registrar's Office website. Those who miss the re-registration deadline will be exmatriculated according to Art. 49 (2) No. 4 BayHSchG. In degree programmes with limited enrolment, this means losing the study place.
?
Exam Registration in STUDIS
If you forget to register for an exam in STUDIS, you will not be allowed to participate in the exam and will only have the opportunity to take the exam again in one or two semesters. This can extend the duration of studies. The registration periods for exams in the next semesters can be found on the
Examination Office website. If all exam requirements have not been completed after eight (or nine, according to the 2015 examination regulations) semesters, an extension of study time can only be granted if every exam period has been used. This means that if an exam period is missed and the exam was not attempted, no hardship application will be possible, as the student has not studied in a goal-oriented manner. The only exception is if the student was unable to attend due to reasons beyond their control, such as illness.
?
Submission of the Bachelor Thesis
The submission deadline is stated on the notification from the Examination Office and must be strictly adhered to, as a late submission will result in failing the bachelor thesis. There is the possibility to apply for an extension of the deadline if valid reasons arise during the completion of the bachelor thesis that make timely submission impossible and are not the student’s fault (e.g., illness). This application must be submitted as early as possible with the necessary evidence.
The orientation exam regulates which exam achievements must be completed in the first semesters (usually in the first three semesters). The specific requirements and deadlines are determined by the examination regulations of the respective degree program.
The rule is: if not all the required achievements for the orientation exam are completed within the set deadlines, the degree program is considered definitively failed. Hardship applications can be submitted to the Examination Office. Valid, verifiable reasons must be provided for these applications!
If the orientation exam (30 ECTS from the foundational area by the end of the second semester) is not passed, you can submit a request for an extension. This official application must be submitted to the Examination Office, which will also provide information on the organizational details. Detailed information on this topic is available on the Examination Office's website. The application should be based on serious, verifiable reasons (e.g., medical certificates). If the application is approved, an additional semester will be granted for completing the orientation exam. In case of rejection, continuing the studies will unfortunately not be possible.
If difficulties arise during the studies or delays become apparent, it is advisable to contact the academic advising office early on. They can often provide valuable tips and support. It is possible to submit a request for an extension of study time. This official request must be submitted to the Examination Office, which will also provide information about the organizational details. Detailed information on this topic can be found on the? Examination Office's website.
The application must be based on serious, verifiable reasons that are not the student's fault (e.g., medical certificates). If the application is approved, the applicant will be granted an additional semester to complete their studies. If the application is rejected, continuing the studies will unfortunately not be possible.
